As reported by the Eastern Daily Press, Swansea are eager to wrap up their second signing of the January transfer window with a move for Norwich City’s Martin Olsson.
What’s the story?
Swansea unveiled Luciano Narsingh on Thursday and they could make their second wide-man signing in a matter of days with a move for a Swedish international with fantastic experience.
The Eastern Daily Press say the deal is on the verge of happening, for £5m, with Swans boss Paul Clement confirming that talks are underway for the left-back.
Quoted by the outlet, Clement said: “The two clubs are talking about that possibility. The stage it’s at we’re looking to agree the terms.”
It sounds like Olsson will be arriving in Wales sooner rather than later and Swans fans could soon be celebrating another astute signing.
The right man?
Swansea are in desperate need of a left-back after regular choice Neil Taylor fractured his cheekbone in training earlier this week. With only Stephen Kingsley and, at a push, Kyle Naughton available in the position then bringing in a proven Premier League player would be good business.
None of Swansea’s left-backs have particularly impressed this campaign and with the club having conceded a massive 45 goals, more than any other team, in the Premier League this season then they badly need improvement across the backline.
Olsson has extensive top-flight experience at both Blackburn and Norwich and is likely to be able to come in and do a job from the off.
His attributes were perfectly highlighted in his recent performance against Derby, a match Norwich ran out 3-0 winners in. He made 6 interceptions, won a massive 6 aerial duels, cleared the ball 3 times and completed a dribble 3 times. He provides a robust option at the back and also has the technical ability to take possession out of defence.
After the signing of Narsingh, this could be another very good bit of business indeed.
