Heaton, who is currently with England at the Euros in a training capacity, told United's website: "I am delighted to continue my stay at my boyhood club. I still feel in great shape and I am ready to offer whatever the squad needs throughout the season ahead. In addition to on the pitch, I’m learning so much off it for my next steps, whatever that may be. But, first and foremost, I want to push the squad to build on our successes from last season."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
United won the FA Cup last season – a result that effectively saved manager Erik ten Hag's job – but they still finished eighth in the Premier League; their lowest-ever finish since the competition's inception in 1992. If the Dutchman wants to stay in the role, things will have to improve a great deal next term.
